AI-Powered Collaborative Design
Figma has integrated a native AI agent into its collaborative canvas, moving beyond its previous partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic for code-focused tools. The agent is designed to function within the multiplayer environment, allowing teams to use natural language prompts to generate new designs, modify existing assets, and automate repetitive workflows.
Context-Aware Automation
The core value proposition of the new agent is its ability to understand design-specific context. By utilizing models fine-tuned for design tasks, the agent aims to help teams visualize edge cases and refine concepts rapidly. According to Figma’s Chief Design Officer, Loredana Crisan, the goal is to shift the designer's focus from manual execution to high-level direction, such as defining product functionality and user experience. Users can deploy multiple agents simultaneously to handle different tasks in parallel, further streamlining the design process.
Strategic Positioning
This launch arrives as Figma faces increasing competition from platforms like Canva, Adobe, Flora, Krea, and Dessn. The company is doubling down on its strategy to bridge the gap between design and code, with plans to expand the agent's availability beyond Figma Design to its broader product suite. Despite industry concerns regarding AI's impact on design roles, Figma continues to see strong financial growth, reporting $333.4 million in revenue for Q1 2026—a 46% year-over-year increase.
